Andrea Works Off His Stress on the Paddle Court
1. The Story
Andrea stormed onto the paddle court, his frustration evident in every movement. The news about missing out on the promotion was still burning in his mind as he prepared to serve. His first attempt was a powerful fault, the ball hitting the wall with excessive force. ‘Need to let off steam,’ he muttered.
As the game progressed, his aggressive style became obvious. Every forehand was struck with intense power, his backhand shots were razor-sharp, and his overhead shots resembled angry smashes more than calculated plays. His friends exchanged worried glances as Andrea continued to work off anger through his fierce net play and powerful wall rebounds.
‘Mate, your footwork is all over the place,’ Tom called out after Andrea missed an easy drop shot. ‘And that spin you’re putting on the ball is wild!’
During a let, when the ball needed to be replayed, Mark finally approached Andrea. ‘Want to work through your problems?’ he asked gently. As they took a break near the baseline, Andrea explained about the promotion. Through their conversation and the physical release of the game, Andrea’s shots gradually became more controlled. His volleys became precise rather than angry, and his slice shots showed finesse instead of fury. By the end of the match, he had not only improved his game but had also found a way to process his disappointment constructively.
