Let me tell you about my adventurous dog Peggy and our interesting day at Bracciano Lake last weekend. Peggy is my beautiful border collie-English setter mix, and she absolutely loves water. Every time we go to the lake, she gets so excited she can barely contain herself!

That morning, as soon as we arrived at the shore, Peggy was already pulling on her leash, eager to get into the water. I could see the excitement in her eyes as she watched the gentle waves. The moment I let her off the leash, she did what she always does – she ran straight to the water and dove into the lake with a big splash!

Peggy is quite a good swimmer. She started doing her funny little doggy paddle around the shallow part of the lake, and I couldn’t help but smile watching her. She looked so happy! But then she spotted something that caught her attention – there were some ducks and swans swimming nearby.

Now, I should mention that Peggy has this habit of trying to chase after the ducks and swans. She thinks it’s a fun game, but I know it’s not safe. Before I could call her back, she was already swimming towards them. The ducks quickly swam away, but the swans… oh, the swans were different!

Two big swans turned around and started to hiss at Peggy. I’ve never seen my brave dog swim back to shore so fast! The swans actually started to chase Peggy, and let me tell you, she learned a very important lesson that day. She scrambled onto the shore, looking quite surprised that her ‘game’ had turned out this way.

For the rest of our time at the lake, Peggy was much more careful. She still enjoyed swimming and diving into the lake, but she kept a safe distance from the swans. I think she finally understood that not all birds want to play with her!

Now whenever we visit Bracciano Lake, Peggy still loves to swim and play in the water, but she gives those swans plenty of space. I guess sometimes our pets need to learn their lessons the hard way, just like we do!
